FTP Notification No. 06/2025-26 Dated 02-05-2025
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), through a notification dated 2nd May 2025, has amended the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 by inserting Para 2.20A, imposing a blanket ban on trade with Pakistan.
1. Scope of the Prohibition
With immediate effect, the policy prohibits both direct and indirect import or transit of all goods that –
- Originate in Pakistan, or
- Are exported from Pakistan,
regardless of whether such goods are otherwise freely importable under the provisions of the FTP.
2. Grounds for the Ban
The restriction has been imposed in the interest of national security and public policy.
This aligns with India’s broader strategic and security considerations and underscores the Government’s discretion in regulating trade for non-commercial concerns.
3. Validity and Exceptions
- The ban will remain in effect until further orders.
- Any exception to the restriction will require prior approval from the Government of India.
4. Implications for Stakeholders
Importers, customs brokers, and logistics operators are advised to –
- Review their existing and future consignments to ensure compliance with the amended policy;
- Seek appropriate clarifications or exemptions (if any) only through formal channels authorized by the Government.
