DGFT restriction on low ash metallurgical coke imports

1. Introduction

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has imposed restrictions on the import of low ash metallurgical coke through a notification amending the import policy under the ITC (HS) framework.

2. Amendment To Import Policy

The restriction has been notified vide Notification No. 53/2025-26 dated 31 December 2025, amending Chapter 27 of ITC (HS), 2022, Schedule-I (Import Policy). The amendment revises the import status of specified grades of metallurgical coke.

3. Goods Covered Under Restriction

The restriction applies to low ash metallurgical coke having ash content below 18%, including coke fines, coke breeze, and ultra-low phosphorous metallurgical coke with phosphorous content up to 0.030%, and size up to 30 mm with a tolerance of 5%, when used in ferroalloy manufacturing.

4. Period Of Restriction

The import of the specified goods has been classified as “Restricted” for the period from 1 January 2026 to 30 June 2026. During this period, imports may be permitted only in accordance with DGFT licensing and regulatory conditions.

The DGFT restriction is aimed at regulating imports of low ash metallurgical coke for a defined period. Importers and manufacturers should review the amended policy carefully and ensure compliance with licensing requirements during the restricted period.
