1. Introduction

The Government has revised tariff values for the import of key commodities such as edible oils, gold, silver, areca nuts, and certain scrap items through Notification No. 01/2026–Customs (N.T.), dated 13 January 2026. Issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), the notification updates the benchmark values used for the assessment of customs duty on specified imports.

2. Substitution Of Tariff Tables

The notification substitutes TABLE-1, TABLE-2, and TABLE-3 of Notification No. 36/2001–Customs (N.T.), dated 3 August 2001. These tables prescribe tariff values for selected imported goods and are periodically revised to reflect prevailing international prices and market trends without altering the scope or description of the covered goods.

3. Goods Covered Under Revised Tables

Under TABLE-1, revised tariff values have been notified for various edible oils, including crude palm oil, RBD palm oil, other palm oil, crude palmolein, RBD palmolein, other palmolein, crude soya bean oil, and brass scrap. TABLE-2 covers gold and silver in specified forms and categories, including imports availing benefits under serial numbers 194 and 195 of Notification No. 45/2025–Customs dated 24 October 2025. TABLE-3 prescribes updated tariff values for areca nuts.

4. Applicability And Assessment

The revised tariff values are to be applied for the purpose of customs duty assessment strictly in accordance with the substituted tables. The notification clarifies that there is no change in the description or scope of the goods listed, ensuring continuity in classification while updating valuation benchmarks.

5. Conclusion

The substituted tariff values will come into force with effect from 14 January 2026 and will apply to all relevant imports from that date onward. Importers of the notified goods should take note of the revised values to ensure accurate customs duty assessment and compliance with the updated regulatory framework.
