DGFT import policy for platinum

FTP Notification No. 58/2025-26, Dated 05-02-2026

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification amending the import policy applicable to ITC (HS) Code 71141920 – Articles of Platinum.

1. Change in Import Policy Status

With immediate effect, the import policy for Articles of Platinum has been revised as follows:

  • Earlier status – Free
  • Revised status – Restricted

Accordingly, imports under ITC (HS) Code 71141920 shall now be governed by Policy Condition No. 6 of Chapter 71 of the ITC (HS).

2. Applicability of Policy Condition No. 6

As a result of the revision:

  • Import of Articles of Platinum will require compliance with the conditions and restrictions prescribed under Chapter 71
  • Importers must obtain the necessary authorisations/approvals, wherever applicable, before undertaking such imports

3. Exemption for Specified Re-imports

DGFT has clarified that certain categories of re-imports of Indian-origin platinum articles shall continue to remain under the ‘Free’ category. These include:

  • Goods sent abroad for exhibitions or promotion tours
  • Rejected, returned, or unsold goods
  • Goods exported for repair and subsequently re-imported into India

Such re-imports shall not be impacted by the revised restricted status.

4. Effective Date

  • The amended import policy is effective immediately from the date of issuance of the notification.

5. Key Takeaway

While fresh imports of Articles of Platinum are now restricted, DGFT has ensured continuity for genuine re-import transactions, thereby balancing regulatory control with trade facilitation.
