Restriction on Jewellery Imports by DGFT

Notification No. 63/2025-26, Dated 16-03-2026

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification amending the import policy under ITC (HS) 2022, Schedule I (Import Policy) for certain jewellery items falling under Chapter 71.

1. ITC (HS) Codes Covered

The amendment applies to the following ITC (HS) codes:

  • 71131144 – Other jewellery studded with diamonds of heading 7104
  • 71131145 – Other jewellery studded with other precious and semi-precious stones

2. Change in Import Policy

The import policy for the above entries has been revised from ‘Free’ to ‘Restricted’.

This means that import of these specified jewellery items will now require prior authorisation from DGFT instead of being freely importable.

3. Validity of Restriction

The restriction will remain in force up to 30 June 2026.

4. Effective Date

The revised import policy has come into effect immediately from the date of notification.

5. Objective of the Amendment

The amendment is aimed at regulating imports of specified jewellery items, possibly to manage trade flows, ensure better monitoring, and address sectoral or economic considerations during the specified period.
