Amends Rules for Customs &amp; Central Excise Settlement Commission<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"166\" data-end=\"506\">The Government has issued a notification to amend the <strong data-start=\"220\" data-end=\"363\">Customs and Central Excise Settlement Commission (Recruitment and Conditions of Service of Chairman, Vice-Chairmen and Members) Rules, 2015<\/strong>. This amendment aims to revise provisions concerning the tenure and termination of officials appointed to key positions within the Commission.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"513\" data-end=\"553\"><strong data-start=\"517\" data-end=\"553\">New Proviso Introduced in Rule 7<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"555\" data-end=\"955\">A significant change introduced by the amendment is the insertion of a <strong data-start=\"626\" data-end=\"676\">new proviso after the second proviso in Rule 7<\/strong> of the 2015 Rules. According to this new provision, any individual appointed as <strong data-start=\"757\" data-end=\"795\">Chairman, Vice-Chairman, or Member<\/strong> of the Settlement Commission and holding office <strong data-start=\"844\" data-end=\"908\">immediately before a date notified by the Central Government<\/strong> shall <strong data-start=\"915\" data-end=\"954\">cease to hold office from that date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"962\" data-end=\"1008\"><strong data-start=\"966\" data-end=\"1008\">Compensation for Premature Termination<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1010\" data-end=\"1384\">To address the implications of early termination, the amendment includes a provision for compensation. Individuals whose tenure ends prematurely under the revised rule shall be <strong data-start=\"1187\" data-end=\"1268\">entitled to claim compensation not exceeding three months&#8217; pay and allowances<\/strong>. This provision offers financial support to affected officials and aims to ensure a fair and respectful transition.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1391\" data-end=\"1437\"><strong data-start=\"1395\" data-end=\"1437\">Amendment Effective from April 1, 2025<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1439\" data-end=\"1816\">The amended rules are <strong data-start=\"1461\" data-end=\"1512\">deemed to have come into force on April 1, 2025<\/strong>, even though the notification date and the date to be officially notified for termination are yet to be announced.
