{"id":9137,"date":"2026-05-19T18:03:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T12:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.centaxonline.com\/blog\/?p=9137"},"modified":"2026-05-19T18:03:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T12:33:08","slug":"dgft-restricts-import-of-certain-silver-products-under-chapter-71","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.centaxonline.com\/blog\/dgft-restricts-import-of-certain-silver-products-under-chapter-71","title":{"rendered":"DGFT Restricts Import of Certain Silver Products Under Chapter 71"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.centaxonline.com\/search?searchData=Notification%20No.%2017%2F2026-27&amp;itemType=AP\">Notification No. 17\/2026-27<\/a>, Dated 16-05-2026<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"74\" data-end=\"248\">The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification amending the import policy of silver under Chapter 71 of ITC (HS), 2022, Schedule I (Import Policy).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"250\" data-end=\"416\">The amendment revises the import policy of specified silver bars covered under ITC (HS) Codes 71069221 and 71069229 from \u2018Free\u2019 to \u2018Restricted\u2019 with immediate effect.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1uyg9ko\" data-start=\"418\" data-end=\"461\">1. Silver Items Covered Under the Amendment<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"463\" data-end=\"500\">The revised import policy applies to:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"502\" data-end=\"646\">\n<li data-section-id=\"16l9fpa\" data-start=\"502\" data-end=\"589\">Silver bars containing 99.9% or more silver falling under ITC (HS) Code 71069221; and<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1ayhbr3\" data-start=\"590\" data-end=\"646\">Other silver bars falling under ITC (HS) Code 71069229<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"648\" data-end=\"734\">These items were earlier freely importable under the existing import policy framework.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1kd5z19\" data-start=\"736\" data-end=\"776\">2. Import Policy Changed to \u2018Restricted\u2019<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"778\" data-end=\"887\">Pursuant to the notification, the import policy of the above-mentioned silver products has been changed from:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"889\" data-end=\"950\">\n<li data-section-id=\"xi4vw6\" data-start=\"889\" data-end=\"917\"><strong data-start=\"891\" data-end=\"910\">Earlier status \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Free<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1f5kttt\" data-start=\"918\" data-end=\"950\"><strong data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"939\">Revised status \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Restricted<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"1125\">Accordingly, imports of such silver bars shall now be subject to regulatory restrictions and applicable approvals or conditions prescribed under the foreign trade framework.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"r338nw\" data-start=\"1127\" data-end=\"1183\">3. Subject to Policy Condition No. 7 and RBI Regulations<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1185\" data-end=\"1274\">The notification specifies that imports of the affected silver items shall be subject to:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1276\" data-end=\"1390\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1rbiokm\" data-start=\"1276\" data-end=\"1337\">Policy Condition No. 7 of Chapter 71 of ITC (HS), 2022; and<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1hizkam\" data-start=\"1338\" data-end=\"1390\">Applicable Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Regulations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1392\" data-end=\"1566\">Importers will therefore be required to ensure compliance with both foreign trade policy conditions and relevant RBI regulatory requirements governing precious metal imports.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"17i01x7\" data-start=\"1568\" data-end=\"1600\">4. Immediate Effect of Amendment<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1602\" data-end=\"1764\">The notification has been issued with the approval of the Minister of Commerce &amp; Industry and has come into force with immediate effect from the date of issuance.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"cxup8r\" data-start=\"1766\" data-end=\"1795\">5. Objective of the Amendment<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1797\" data-end=\"2048\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The amendment seeks to regulate imports of specified silver bars by shifting them from a freely importable category to a restricted regime, thereby strengthening oversight and monitoring of precious metal imports under India\u2019s foreign trade
