The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has issued an advisory deferring the implementation of two important E-Way Bill (EWB)<\/strong> enhancements, originally scheduled to go live on 15 June 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The revised implementation date for both functionalities has now been extended to 01 August 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

1. Functionalities Deferred by GSTN<\/h2>\n

The following E-Way Bill enhancements have been postponed:<\/p>\n

1.1. Mandatory Capture of \u2018Ship-To GSTIN\u2019<\/h3>\n

In Bill-To\/Ship-To transactions<\/strong>, taxpayers will be required to mandatorily capture the \u2018Ship-To GSTIN\u2019<\/strong> while generating an E-Way Bill.<\/p>\n

The implementation of this requirement has now been deferred to 01-08-2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

1.2. Voluntary Closure of E-Way Bill Facility<\/h3>\n

GSTN has also deferred the rollout of the Voluntary E-Way Bill Closure Facility<\/strong>, which would enable stakeholders to close an E-Way Bill once goods have been delivered.<\/p>\n

This functionality will likewise become operational from 01-08-2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    • GST Suvidha Providers (GSPs);<\/li>\n
    • ERP solution providers; and<\/li>\n
    • Other stakeholders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The stakeholders highlighted the need for additional time to complete system-level preparations before implementation.<\/p>\n

      4. Areas Requiring Readiness<\/h2>\n

      The additional time has been provided to facilitate:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • \n
          \n
        • System modifications;<\/li>\n
        • API integration and testing;<\/li>\n
        • ERP configuration and readiness;<\/li>\n
        • Master data updation;<\/li>\n
        • End-to-end testing of E-Way Bill workflows; and<\/li>\n
        • User adoption and process alignment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          5. Advisory for Taxpayers and Technology Providers<\/h2>\n

          GSTN has advised all stakeholders to utilise the extended timeline for completing the necessary technical and operational preparations.<\/p>\n

          Particular attention should be given to:<\/p>\n

            \n
          • \n
              \n
            • Updating ERP systems;<\/li>\n
            • Testing APIs released by GSTN;<\/li>\n
            • Validating master data relating to consignors and consignees; and<\/li>\n
            • Ensuring readiness for the new E-Way Bill requirements before 01 August 2026.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              6. Significance of the Deferred Changes<\/h2>\n

              Once implemented, the proposed functionalities are expected to:<\/p>\n

              • \n
                  \n
                • Improve traceability of goods movement;<\/li>\n
                • Enhance accuracy in Bill-To\/Ship-To transactions;<\/li>\n
                • Strengthen data integrity within the E-Way Bill system;<\/li>\n
                • Enable closure-based tracking of completed deliveries; and<\/li>\n
                • Reduce compliance ambiguities relating to transportation records.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  Objective of the Extension<\/h2>\n

                  The deferment aims to ensure a smooth, disruption-free transition to the enhanced E-Way Bill framework.<\/p>\n
