Notification No. 11/2026-Customs (N.T.), Dated 30-01-2026

The Central Government has issued a notification amending Notification No. 36/2001–Customs (N.T.) dated 03 August 2001, by substituting revised tariff values for specified goods listed in Tables 1, 2, and 3 of the said notification. The amendment updates the tariff values applicable for customs assessment of certain edible oils, precious metals, and scrap.

1. Revised Tariff Values for Edible Oils

The notification prescribes revised tariff values for the following edible oils and related products:

  • Crude palm oil
  • RBD palm oil
  • Other palm oils
  • Crude palmolein
  • RBD palmolein
  • Other palmolein
  • Crude soya bean oil

These revised values will be applied for the purpose of customs valuation of the respective goods falling under the specified tariff headings.

2. Tariff Values for Brass Scrap

In addition to edible oils, the notification also revises the tariff value for brass scrap, impacting import valuation and duty computation for such goods.

3. Tariff Values for Gold and Silver under Concessional Regime

The notification further specifies tariff values for gold and silver in specified forms where concessional rate entries under Notification No. 45/2025-Customs dated 24 October 2025 are availed. The prescribed tariff values cover:

  • Gold bars
  • Gold coins
  • Silver in various forms

These tariff values will apply exclusively in cases where the relevant concessional customs duty provisions are claimed.

4. Clarification on Exclusions

The notification expressly clarifies that the prescribed tariff values do not apply to:

  • Foreign currency coins
  • Silver jewellery
  • Articles made of silver

Such items will continue to be assessed as per the applicable customs valuation provisions outside the notified tariff value mechanism.

5. No Change in Tariff Value for Areca Nuts

The existing tariff value for areca nuts remains unchanged, and imports of areca nuts will continue to be assessed at the tariff value currently in force.

6. Effective Date and Applicability

The substituted tariff values shall apply for the assessment of imported goods covered under the specified tariff headings with effect from 31 January 2026. Importers dealing in edible oils, precious metals, brass scrap, and areca nuts must ensure that the revised tariff values are applied for customs valuation and duty calculation from the effective date.

7. Compliance Takeaway

Importers should review their import contracts, pricing assumptions, and duty calculations in light of the revised tariff values to ensure accurate customs compliance and avoid valuation disputes.
