1. Introduction
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has notified Bhogapuram in the State of Andhra Pradesh as a Customs airport through Notification No. 02/2026–Customs (N.T.), dated 14 January 2026. This notification enables the loading and unloading of imported and export goods at the newly notified location, strengthening regional trade infrastructure.
2. Amendment To Existing Notification
The notification amends Notification No. 61/94–Customs (N.T.), which prescribes the list of Customs airports across India. By inserting Bhogapuram as an additional entry under Andhra Pradesh in the relevant table, CBIC has formally extended Customs operational jurisdiction to this location.
3. Scope Of Customs Operations
As a notified Customs airport, Bhogapuram is authorised for the unloading of imported goods and the loading of export goods, or any class of such goods, as permitted under Customs law. This notification clarifies the scope of Customs operations that can be carried out at the airport.
4. Impact On Trade And Logistics
The notification of Bhogapuram as a Customs airport is expected to facilitate smoother import and export movements, reduce logistics costs, and enhance trade connectivity in the region. It will also support economic activity by improving access to Customs clearance facilities for businesses operating in and around Andhra Pradesh.
5. Conclusion
With this amendment, Notification No. 61/94–Customs (N.T.) stands modified to include Bhogapuram as a notified Customs airport. The move reflects CBIC’s continued efforts to expand Customs infrastructure and streamline cross-border trade operations in line with growing economic and logistical demands.
