Notification No. 15/2026-Customs, Dated 12-05-2026

The Central Government has amended Notification No. 45/2025-Customs dated 24-10-2025, increasing customs duty on specified imports of gold, silver, and other precious metal items covered under Chapter 71.

1. Increase in Customs Duty

  • Customs duty has been revised from 5% to 10%
  • Applicable to entries covered under:
    1. S. Nos. 192, 193, 194, 195, 196, 197, and 203
    2. In Table I of the notification

2. Insertion of New Entry – S. No. 200A

A new entry has been inserted for:

  • “Spent catalyst or ash containing precious metals”
  • Falling under CTH 7112

Duty Rate

  • Customs duty prescribed at 10%

Validity

  • Applicable up to 31 March 2027

3. Substitution of S. No. 202

  • S. No. 202 has been substituted to prescribe 10% customs duty
  • Applicable to specified tariff items
  • Excluding goods covered under newly inserted S. No. 200A

4. Effective Date

  • The revised provisions shall come into force from 13 May 2026

5. Objective of the Amendment

The notification aims to:

  • Rationalise customs duty structure on precious metals and related products
  • Align tariff treatment across specified Chapter 71 items
  • Strengthen revenue and trade policy measures relating to precious metal imports

6. Conclusion

The amendment significantly increases customs duty on specified precious metal imports and introduces a dedicated tariff entry for spent catalysts and ash containing precious metals, effective from 13-05-2026.
