FTP re-import period

Notification No. 73/2025-26 FTP, Dated 31-03-2026

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification amending Paragraph 4.43 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, introducing a one-time relaxation for the gems and jewellery sector.

1. Existing Provision Remains Unchanged

The current framework relating to:

  • Export of cut and polished diamonds
  • Re-import facility at zero duty

continues unchanged, ensuring continuity in trade operations.

2. Extension of Re-import Period

An additional provision has been inserted to allow extension of the re-import period in specified cases.

  • Where the re-import period is expiring between 01-03-2026 and 31-05-2026
  • The period shall automatically stand extended by 30 days from the original date of expiry

3. Revised Time Limit for Re-import

As a result of this relaxation:

  • Eligible exporters can now avail a total re-import period of up to 4 months
  • Instead of the earlier 3-month period for zero-duty re-import

4. Objective of the Relaxation

This measure aims to:

  • Provide operational flexibility to exporters
  • Address logistical and market disruptions
  • Support the gems and jewellery sector during a constrained period

5. Conclusion

The amendment offers targeted relief by extending timelines without altering the core policy framework, thereby ensuring ease of compliance and continuity in export-import operations for the sector.
