The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a notification amending the export policy for Wheat under Chapter 10 of Schedule 2 of the ITC (HS) Export Policy.

1. Status of Export Policy

  • Export of wheat under:
    1. HS Code 10011900
    2. HS Code 10019910
  • Continues to remain ‘Prohibited’

2. Limited Relaxation for Export

  • The notification permits export of an additional 25 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of wheat
  • Subject to modalities to be specified separately through a DGFT Public Notice

3. Continuation of Existing Conditions

4. Government-to-Government Exports

  • Export of wheat may also be allowed:
    1. Based on specific permission by the Government of India
    2. To meet food security needs of other countries
    3. Upon requests from foreign governments
  • Such exports are over and above the permitted 25 LMT limit

5. Objective of the Amendment

The policy seeks to:

  • Maintain domestic food security
  • Allow controlled exports under government oversight
  • Support global food requirements through diplomatic channels

The amendment retains the prohibited status of wheat exports while allowing limited and regulated relaxation, balancing domestic supply concerns with international commitments.
