1. Background
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has reinstated and amended the Standard Input Output Norm (SION) No. C-888, which governs the input-output ratio for the export of circular stainless-steel washers. This move comes through a Public Notice issued by DGFT, restoring a norm that had previously been suspended.
2. Scope of the Revised SION
The reinstated and amended SION C-888 now applies to the export of small and large-size circular stainless-steel washers of various grades, with an output quantity fixed at 1.0 kg.
In relation to this export item, the following inputs are now permitted for import –

Prime or Secondary Stainless Steel in the form of –
-
- Sheets
- Sheet cuttings
- Coils
- Strips
- Plates
The inputs must be of relevant grade and thickness, and the revised permissible input quantity is 1.60 kg.
3. Effect of the Public Notice
- Restoration of SION C-888 – This SION, which was earlier suspended via Public Notice No. 56 dated 14-01-2020, has now been reactivated and updated.
- Operational Clarity for Exporters – Exporters can now utilise the revised norms while planning imports under Advance Authorisation for manufacturing stainless-steel washers meant for export.
4. Conclusion
This amendment aims to facilitate exporters of stainless-steel washers by providing a clear and updated input-output framework under the Advance Authorisation scheme.
