DGFT notification Bangladesh imports restriction Nhava Sheva Seaport jute goods import ban India-Bangladesh trade restrictions

Notification No. 24/2025-26, Dated 11-08-2025

1. Additional Port Restrictions Announced

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a new notification introducing further port restrictions on the import of specific goods from Bangladesh under ITC (HS), 2022 Schedule 1. The move targets four new HS codes—531090 (bleached and unbleached woven fabrics of jute or other textile bast fibre), 560890 (twine, cordage, rope, etc. of jute), 560790 (twine, cordage, rope, and cables), and 630510 (sacks and bags of jute). These have now been added to the list of restricted items covered under sub-para 2 of Para 19(1) in the General Notes Regarding Import Policy.

2. Restriction on Land Port Entry from Banglades

Under the revised import policy, consignments of the above-mentioned goods originating from Bangladesh are prohibited from entering India through any land port situated on the India–Bangladesh border. This measure aims to regulate the inflow of these items more stringently and streamline import monitoring processes.

3. Mandatory Routing through Nhava Sheva Seaport

Importers dealing in these HS codes must now route all consignments from Bangladesh exclusively through the Nhava Sheva Seaport. Any attempt to import these products via land ports will not be permitted under the new DGFT directive. This ensures that all shipments of the restricted goods are processed through a single, designated entry point.

4. Continuation of Previous Provisions

All other provisions stipulated in Notification No. 21/2025-26, dated 27-06-2025, will remain in force without alteration. The newly introduced port restrictions are effective immediately, and importers must ensure full compliance to avoid delays, penalties, or confiscation of goods.
