Notification No. 50/2025-Customs (N.T.), Dated 14-08-2025
CBIC Amends Tariff Value Notification
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued a notification amending Notification No. 36/2001-Customs (N.T.), originally dated 03-08-2001. The amendment substitutes new tariff values for certain categories of goods that are subject to customs duty. This step has been taken to align tariff values with prevailing market conditions and ensure uniformity in customs assessments.
Goods Covered Under the Amendment
The revised tariff values have been notified for a range of goods, including edible oils, brass scrap, precious metals, and areca nuts. These commodities are among the commonly imported items where valuation plays a crucial role in determining customs duties. The update ensures that importers apply consistent values at the time of filing bills of entry, thereby reducing disputes and enhancing transparency.
Effective Date of Implementation
The revised tariff values will come into force from 15-08-2025. Importers handling the specified goods will need to adopt these updated values while undertaking customs assessments from the effective date. It is important for stakeholders to be aware of this timeline to avoid any compliance issues or delays in clearance.
Compliance Requirements for Importers
Importers of the notified goods are required to ensure that their customs filings reflect the updated tariff values as mandated. Customs officers and field formations will also follow these revised values while carrying out assessments. The notification emphasizes strict adherence to the amended tariff structure, and importers are advised to review their pricing, contracts, and compliance processes in light of this change.
